The Cincinnati Reds finally brought out the bats and defeated the persistent, careless Chicago Cubs Friday afternoon 10-8 and ended the Reds’ 5 game losing streak.

Homer Bailey did enough on the mound to pick up the win and improve his record to 10-7.  Bailey went a little over 5 innings, allowed 9 hits and 4 earned runs.  His ERA now stands at 4.08 and is the third Reds’ pitcher to pick up double digit wins.

At the plate, the Cincinnati Reds pounded out 15 hits on their way to the 10 runs.  They were helped along the way with 5 (that’s correct, 5) Cubs’ errors.

Individually, the Cincinnati Reds were lead by Todd Frazier who went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and scoring 1 run himself.  Ryan Ludwick finally found his stroke after a week’s vacation and went 3 for 5, with 2 RBI and scoring 4 runs.

Jonathan Broxton had his second bad outing in a row.  After getting his first loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night, he allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in only 2/3 inning work.  Luckily for Reds’ fans, Aroldis Chapman is always available to finish out a game.  Chapman picked up his 26th save by getting the final 4 outs (3 on strikeout – surprised?).

The Reds will continue play in Chicago on Saturday afternoon with the 3rd game of the 4-game series.  Taking the mound for the Cincinnati Reds will be Bronson Arroyo.  He will be matched up against former Red, Travis Wood.

Dusty Baker said he would keep Jay Bruce out of the game on Saturday (Bruce was out of Friday’s game too).  Bruce is in one of his huge slumps having gone 1 for 16 with 7 strikeouts in the last four games of play.

Again Cincinnati Reds’ fans everywhere are waiting for Joey Votto to finally return.  He is inching closer to getting back in the lineup.  Let’s hope that the Reds are still in first when he finally does return.
