Monday’s off day could not have come at a better time for the beleaguered Acta Warriors. Entering Tuesday’s game with the Phillies the Tribe has dropped six of their last seven including two straight hard luck losses against the Pirates. Facing the Phillies in Philadelphia seems a daunting task, but luckily the team will run up against three of the Phils’ struggling pitchers.

Notes:

  • Down on the farm: The Lake County Captains won the first half title in the Midwest League, perhaps a good sign of things to come just east in Cleveland.
  • Different paths: The Plain Dealer’s Paul Hoynes chronicles the paths former John Hart protégés Mark Shapiro and Neal Huntington have taken since the golden ear of the 1990′s.
  • Getting off on the right foot: Carlos Santana’s streak of reaching base safely ended at eight at-bats during Sunday’s loss to the Pirates. Since being called up on June 11 Santana is 8 for 24 with seven walks and only two strikeouts.
  • Age is only a number: Santana was only 2 months 8 days old when Tuesday’s opposing pitcher, Jamie Moyer, made his major league debut on June 16, 1986.
  • Uncommon enemies: Only one Phillie has any at-bats against Mitch Talbot (Juan Castro), but eight current Indians have faced Moyer in the past. Austin Kearns has the best record against the ageless wonder, batting .438 in 16 previous at-bats.
