When Competitive Eating Goes Bad: Man Dies After Winning Dumpling Contest

Who says competitive eating isn’t a sport? When the sport in question claims the life of someone, you have an argument for it being a sport. Not to mention how much it probably lowers the life expectancy of it’s competitors.

Apparently a 77 year old Ukrainian man died yesterday after eating 10 dumplings in half a minute, which won him first place.

Talk about going out on top.

According to organisers of last weekend’s contest, the dumplings used were filled with potatoes and had been bought from a local supermarket.

They have refuted suggestions the contest killed Mr Mendel.

Well luckily for them the guy was 77, because they can claim he died of natural causes. But when you eat so many pounds of potatoes, it doesn’t take a coroner to figure this out.
