As if the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles NFC East rivalry isn’t heated enough already, leave it to The New York Post to take the rivalry to a new low.

According to Blacksportsonline.com, The New York Post recently portrayed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick as a baby for his public complaints about the hits from the New York Giants.

The Giants would defeat the Eagles 29-16, Vick’s post-game comments stating that there were some missed non-calls is what triggered the Post’s attempt at humor.

With the NFL’s recent new rules encouraging player safety such as “The Brady Rule”—which protects a quarterback from being hit below the knee—and the new “Steelers Rule” which protects defenseless players from being hit by opposing players with the helmet—you have to wonder why Vick is even complaining at all?

Were the hits on Vick legal?

There is a fine gray area between a roughing-the passer and a legal hit, but with the way the NFL babies and protects certain high-profile quarterbacks such as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, you may actually agree find yourself agreeing with Vick’s accusations.

Vick has been sacked or hit on 30% on his drop backs—most in the NFL—and has been sacked four times and knocked out of the Eagles last two games—most recently a bruised right hand against the Giants.

While Vick still has a tendency to run, he has to also understand the risk and consequences of his choices—and once he is outside of the pocket— he is considered a runner and fair game.

With every dropback and snap, Vick is playing—and living— very dangerously with the Eagles very high Super Bowl hopes and expectations.

Philadelphia also needs to do a much better job of protecting Vick and fix their issues on the offensive line, or else opposing defenses with bring their own respective pacifiers and put Vick on a permanent timeout.

  1. Jeff Shull says:

Vick has no complaints…since last year they are No. 7 in the amount of Roughing the Passer calls that were called on their opponents, and none of the six in front of them have high profile quarterbacks…Vick was the victim of four since the start of the 2010 season, more than any other QB in the NFC East.
