10 Reasons why Tim Tebow is not the Denver Broncos Future

Source: Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

Tim Tebow has been talked about incessantly by the media and fans alike. Whether they are buying into the Tebowmania or on the opposite side of the fence. Since, taking over the reigns of the Denver Broncos eight games ago, Tebow has gone gone 7-1 a far cry from the 1-4 start to the season by Kyle Orton who has since been released and picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs.

With all the success there still are a number of reasons why Tebow's future isn't shining brightly in Denver. Here are the 10 reasons why that is the case.

  1. David Williams says:

Is this a serious page? They are basing all of these prospects on their ability to throw and win in college. Tebow was the arguably the best college player ever in the toughest conference. Come on, man.

    • Steven Resnick says:

Tebow was arguably the best college player in the toughest conference. I’d have to disagree with you and actually say he was one of the most overrated players and there was a reason why he fell in the draft and the Broncos gave up way too much to draft him.

One of the main reasons why is that Tebow was rarely called on to throw deep while with the Florida Gators, his success throwing the football came from short throws that allowed the speedsters to pick up big chunks of yards, so a one or two yard pass turned into a 30 yard gain.

    • Steven Resnick says:

David how else do they get highly sought after in the draft? By their ability to throw the football in college. Tebow his draft stock was dropping based on his throwing mechanics and could have easily been selected in the second or third rounds at that point. Instead the Broncos gave up draft position to select him and have regretted that decision even with the way Tebow is playing now.

  2. zach says:

I don’t really like this list, I really don’t think the broncos are going to draft a replacement, and why would they? tebow IS winning, yes it’s ugly every single game, and it’s truely the defense and MATT PRATER saving his ass everytime, either way the broncos are happy they aren’t terrible anymore, they’re not going to draft someone that they have to restructure the offense for AGAIN, I’m not a tebow fan, i absolutely cannot stand his style of play, he is wayyyyy overhyped, and I think it’s pathetic that 7-1 tebow is getting more attention than, Aaron rodgers 13-0, Drew Brees 10-3, Tom Brady 10-3 and Eli Manning 7-6, which are all on track for 5,000+ passing yards, which is rare to see for one QB. Screw Tebow, He won’t win!

    • Steven Resnick says:

Zach, the Broncos had to change their system to at least give Tebow a chance to succeed. If the Broncos asked Tebow to throw the football 30-40 times a game would he be having nearly as much success? No. He’d be probably at 1-7 right now.

I’ll also agree with that Matt Prater and the Broncos defense has really stepped up. What’s also hard to ignore is the fact that four of the five losses that Kyle Orton participated in were games lost by a total of 11 points, the only real bomb was against the undefeated Green Bay Packers.

For Tebow the teams he has played for the most part have been decimated by injuries. The Bears were without Jay Cutler and Matt Forte, Raiders have been without Darren McFadden and Jason Campbell, Chiefs lost Jamaal Charles, etc….

Only team that he faced that was reasonably healthy was the Detroit Lions and that did not go well a 45-10 defeat.

What happens against the Patriots will be interesting it’s more than likely a loss and in my opinion the San Diego Chargers are going to surprise everyone and make the playoffs.

    • Steven Resnick says:

I’d have to disagree with you Zach, yes Tebow’s winning. Yet, what happens next year when those teams are healthy will he be winning ugly then? Not likely. Matt Prater arguably has been the hero for the Broncos as it says something about his game winning kicks especially when those kicks are from 50 yards or more. I don’t think Tebow is a starting caliber quarterback even with the success he has found right now. I’ll agree with in that it is a shame that there’s quarterbacks having far superior seasons (and that’s being nice) while Tebow constantly has his name in the media.

  3. C123 says:

Well, he is right about one thing. Tebow will have to learn how to pass in the NFL. Sure, he can run. So could Steve Young but he could also pass. It’s too early to tell with Tebow. He may improve. But just because you are a star in college, even in the SEC, doesn’t automatically mean NFL success.

    • Steven Resnick says:

It really doesn’t matter where a quarterback goes to school, the best in the league Aaron Rodgers is from the Pac-10 now the Pac-12. Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger are from much smaller schools and have found success at the NFL level, Jay Cutler found success he’s from the SEC yet he really wasn’t on a school that was known for having much success in terms of wins and losses.

One of the major things people forget about is that when the Florida Gators faced off against Oklahoma there was another team that deserved to be in the championship game against the Gators and that was the USC Trojans.

Guaranteed if that game had been played USC versus Florida for the championship, no way does Tebow come out victorious.

The Trojans had it on both sides of the ball with Patrick Turner, Damian Williams, Stanley Havili, C.J. Gable, Joe McKnight and Mark Sanchez offensively and defensively had Taylor Mays, Brian Cushing, Rey Maualuga and of course a better head coach in Pete Carroll.

Of course would still hear about Tebow, just not as much.

  4. Steve says:

Let’s see, let’s name the top five quarterbacks not named Luck coming out of the draft, toss out some flash-in-the-pan that has nothing in common with Tebow, throw in a couple recycled talking points that all the so-called “experts” have been using, spew out some garbage about a receiver who has spent double the time in the training room than he has on the practice or gameday field, and top it all off with the Hall of Fame quarterback and current executive vice president of the team who most recently has commented that he’s Tebow’s biggest fan (although he’d better say that, because if he runs Tebow out of town, he won’t be far behind, 2 Super Bowl rings and Hall of Fame or not)… If you hadn’t failed to do any research other than stat sheets, you’d have known that: (1) Elway himself ran more than most qb’s his first few years, so much in fact that the so-called “experts” said he was going to wear down after a few years (last I checked, he played 16 seasons and retired still physically able to play and a defending 2-time Super Bowl champion), (2) the so-called “experts” from have confirmed a minimum of 7 dropped passes in the Chicago game, including one through the hands of your receiver victim that would have been a 55-yard touchdown early in the 3rd quarter, (3) you say Case Keenum, I say Andre Ware (or David Klingler, take your pick), (4) you say Matt Barkley, I say Matt Leinert (or even Mark Sanchez, take your pick), and (5) (yes, I only need half as many examples to blow your “arguments” out of the water) let’s compare Elway’s rookie season, in which he played in 11 games and started 10 to Tebow’s first 11 starts as a Broncos quarterback (8 this year, 3 last year)–completion percentage: Elway 47.5, Tebow 48.9–yards passing & completions: Elway 1663 yards on 123 completions, Tebow 1944 yards on 137 completions–TD’s/interceptions: Elway 7/14, Tebow 16/5–and most importantly, team record: Elway 4-6 (the Broncos lost the other game he substituted in, though he rightfully didn’t get credited with the loss), Tebow 8-3!! And before you’re hugely mistaken to say the Broncos were a weaker all-around team in Elway’s rookie year than they are now, just realize that in Elway’s 2nd season, the Broncos went 13-3, with Elway going 12-2 as a starter. Just a little TRUE knowledge to chew on.

    • Steven Resnick says:

Name the top five quarterbacks not named Luck in the draft. Matt Barkley, Robert Griffin III, Landry Jones, Ryan Tannehill and Nic Foles. Each one translates to develop into a better quarterback than Tebow.

Your assessment about John Elway running a lot, might want to look at the numbers. 28 rushing attempts for 146 yards and a touchdown in his first 11 games, nowhere near the rushing attempts or yards picked up by Tebow and the most he ever ran in a season was for 307 yards and that wasn’t until his fifth year, most of the time it was in the 200 yard range, not a lot of running from Elway. May want to check again as in his third year led the league in passing attempts with 605.

Elway was the no.1 overall pick, Tebow’s draft stock was dropping and the Broncos overpaid to acquire Tebow who was selected as the 25th overall pick and more than likely would have been picked in the third or fourth round of the draft instead of the first.

The flaws in Tebow’s games continue to this day.

By the way if you’re going to claim something like Elway’s Tebow’s biggest fan may want to share the link.

You’re free to have your opinions about the quarterbacks in the draft that you went over and I would have to disagree on all of them.

Will say that Elway was not the most accurate passer, he undoubtedly was a better talent than Elway.

Also, in that time there were two quarterbacks who ran more than Elway. Randall Cunningham and Steve Young. Tebow doesn’t come close to either one and it doesn’t matter what they did or didn’t do in their first 11 games.

Look at Joe Montana’s first couple of seasons far from impressive, yet he developed into the greatest quarterback of all-time.

What’s even more difficult is comparing the two different eras as well. I wonder what your opinion of Andy Dalton is or Cam Newton for that matter? Both better quarterbacks now and will be in the future.

  5. fan0407 says:

Never, never compare Elway & Tebow!! I have been a Bronco fan since 1973 – tried and true – and I don’t think Tebow will ever be the future quarterback for the Broncos. At least I hope not.
If it wasn’t for our defense and matt prater we would NOT be where we are now. Tebow cannot get all the credit each week.
The Broncos need a quarterback who can throw, “see” what’s out there, run, scramble and make plays. Tebow cannot do that!

    • Steven Resnick says:

Agree with you and there’s a huge difference too when fans try to compare numbers. Elway was throwing the ball down the field and Tebow is not.

  6. David says:

As much as I agree with the basic premise of this article, less than half had anything to do with Tebow, which massively takes away from its credibility. Tebow’s strengths are running the ball and leadership. His accuracy and the fact that he disappears for the 1st 3 quarters every game are serious problems. Also, Denver’s defense is not getting due credit for this 7-1 stretch. They have kept the games close, which allows for these dramatic comebacks. Finally, just to inject a little personal opinion into this argument, I want to say that I like Tebow as a person and he can be successful in the NFL, but not as a QB. He could be a very good RB and maybe throw a couple times a game out of a Wildcat formation, but unless he can correct his erratic throwing motion (which seems unlikely), he’s doomed to fail as a passer.

  7. John Smith says:

If the Broncos had the QB they wish they had who dropped back 30 times a game, they would have more turnovers and a losing record

How many Super Bowls has Marino and Moon won? 0

The Broncos have a winning TEAM right now and should work on making it better with Tebow as the QB

If the Broncos had Elway right now, he better be running to win games because there isnt anybody else on their offense who are play makers or will win the game for them

How mnay receivers are on the team that have had 1,000 yard seasons or double digit TD’s… 0 .. How many running backs have had 1,000 yard seasons and double digit TD’s…0

I rest my case, the Broncos front office and the NFL should be happy, they are selling more jerseys and people are watching more NFL games.

Will he ever win a super bowl or be in the hall of fame, who knows, but what is a fact is the Broncos have a winning formula right now with him as the QB on the TEAM.

    • Steven Resnick says:

If the Broncos had a starting quarterback that could throw the ball accurately the team wouldn’t have a 8-5 record and in fact would be running away with the AFC West division and would have a record of 11-2 at this point. Orton could have easily went 4-1 instead of 1-4. The Broncos weren’t playing poorly with him and the games with only the Packers loss being the game that the Broncos were not in it.

Are you really trying to compare Warren Moon and Dan Marion to Tebow? There’s no comparison. Both Moon and Marino could throw the football down the field, Tebow cannot.

How can the Broncos make Tebow a better quarterback is it by letting him throw more? The only way to make Tebow better is by designing more run plays for him and again that goes back to the point I made about coaches not wanting to see their quarterbacks be hit.

The truth is the Broncos offensive MVP is not Tebow, it’s Willis McGahee. If he had a serious injury and wasn’t able to return especially after Knowshon Moreno was injured, the Broncos wouldn’t be winning any of these games. McGahee is by far the Broncos offensive MVP.

  8. Lawrence McKenzie says:

All this talk on tebow is because of his craze fan’s who think he’s the second coming of god, make’s me sick.Im 61 and have seen every great QB since 1956, guy’s like johnny Unitas, Bart Starr,Fran Tarkenton,Warren Moon, and the greatest of all Joe Montana.Arron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, the greats of modern day.Enough about Tebow the bronco’s should send him to Jacksonville thell love him their and the can preach untill their blue in the face

    • Steven Resnick says:

Amen! Broncos could easily send him to Jacksonville and again another controversy would erupt as Blaine Gabbert even with his struggles this year has more promise than Tebow.

  9. Ray says:

I predict Tebow will take the Broncos all the way to the Super Bowl this year, win it, then, after working with Elway all spring and summer, Elway will decide he’s hopeless as the “Broncos’ quarterback of the future” and trade him to the Jaguars who will then have a great season with him. The Broncos will fail without Tebow and Elway will lose his job.

    • Steven Resnick says:

If your prediction that the Broncos win a Super Bowl the only question I would have is why would you trade Tebow at that point? Makes no sense. Obviously you’re also missing that the Broncos have not clinched a playoff spot before the team can make it to the Super Bowl they must be in the playoffs and I still don’t see that happening.

  10. Billy Jack says:

Elway did say he was Tebow’s biggest fan, I recall it linked from my msn in the title a week ago (I think from the denver post) quite clearly and while I’d not disagree that he probably said it to get the fans off his back but he did say it.

Also, I’ve not watched football in years, but I’ll be watching this Sunday as even I can’t ignore the incredible hype around this guy. I hear so many things from people that seem to disagree so starkly about what he represents; you seem to be on the side that says the circus will collapse soon and dramatically, and for many people like me it’s that danger that fuels our enthusiasm, largely this is what has resparked my interest in football which is tied to the incongruincy of the media around him. When I first heard of him the “experts” were so certain he’d fail immediatley that it made me sad that such a nice guy was doomed, but then of course he kept winning and now the argument is whether it’s “real”. Some say that the teams he has played sucked, some say that the sunday before last (can’t remember the team) played better than they had in years, so it’s just plain interesting to people.

And that’s really the point… even if he fails spectacuarly there’s no way in heck he’s getting ousted until the fans turn on him, I can’t even imagine the amount of money he’s bringing into the franchise… I mean Elway was legend but I’d wager Tebow is literally a cash cow worth exponentially more. My hope is that Tebow pulls off another miracle and gets into the playoffs… where he fails but then Elway turns him into the best of throwing and running as he recently said he’d spend the offseason with him.

    • Steven Resnick says:

I disagree the Broncos organization is going to do what is best for the team for both short term success and long term success and I don’t believe that Elway feels that Tebow can do that.

  11. Tebow fan in CA says:

Tebow is a winner. He never takes credit for the wins, and during post game press he thanks his teammates and calls out their names. My suspicion is his teammates love him. He gives them the confidence they can win. When asked about Tebow Time, Tim called it Broncos Time.

You talk incessantly about his throwing accuracy. His numbers would be better is his receivers could catch a ball that hits them in the hands. Thomas dropped one for a sure touchdown and game winner against the Bears.

Players try to insult him, but Tim has none of it. When Urlacher called him a good running back, Tebow replied that coming from such a great player, it was a nice compliment. No mud slinging from Tim.

I hope he makes you eat your words, just like Boomer Esiasen (loser) and the rest of the commentators who can’t stand it that a good man is making good. I bet the Broncos organization is thankful for the money Tebow is bringing in by filling the seats in their stadium.

    Tebow! Tebow! Tebow!
