The RING is reporting there is an agreement in place which will set up a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto on June 9th. They believe the announcement could come as early as Monday presuming there are no last minute issues. With this fight, Pacquiao will take on a fighter which took him 12 rounds in 2009. Miguel Cotto has won three straight bouts, attaining revenge for one of his two losses recently against Antonio Margarito. That fight served as one of Cotto’s most flawless performances which saw him win by TKO in the ninth round.

Manny Pacquiao is coming off a decision against Juan Manuel Marquez which left many people feeling Marquez was robbed. The fight was a close one and we all know when in doubt, things go the way of the title holder. Every boxer has an opponent tailor made for him which produces some of the best fights and their biggest challenge. For Manny Pacquiao, Marquez seems to be that person and Manny deserves a ton of credit for facing him three times.

While this isn’t the Floyd Mayweather match up fight fans have been longing for, it should be a good one none the less. Cotto has been on a tear since the loss to Pacquiao and his camp will be better prepared for the champ this time around. In contrast, Pacquiao had a borderline decision go his way and faced an aged shell of Shane Mosley before that. There have been rumors that Pac Man has not been training as hard as he used to, more involved in his political career and perhaps a little too comfortable in his talents. Of the four possible opponents Manny could have chosen, many consider Cotto to actually pose the most danger despite the styles favoring Pacquiao. The good news is we won’t have too long to wait and see.

There is still speculation a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will happen in November once Mayweather serves his jail time. That is if Mayweather will go for a 50-50 split and concede the fight is just as much about Pacquiao as it is himself.
