Every year, it’s an interesting exercise to see what one of the nation’s most powerful basketball fans sees as the way the NCAA Basketball Tournament bracket will shake out.
That fan?
President Barack Obama.
The President joined ESPN’s Andy Katz to follow through on his annual tradition of picking the bracket across the four regions, his Final Four, and eventual National Champion. Here are his four regional winner picks:
EAST– Indiana Hoosiers
SOUTH- Florida Gators
MIDWEST- Louisville Cardinals
WEST- Ohio State Buckeyes
It appears as if the Commander-In-Chief likes teams from the midwest to make some noise over the course of the next couple of weeks and move through the tournament’s first few rounds and into the Final Four.
The Ohio State pick is an interesting one given they may be the lowest-lying No. 2 pick in the field, and a team that no one is really talking about, in spite of being senior-laden and full of depth led by head coach Thad Motta.
Florida is another team that has been an anomaly at times, but few can question the ability of Gators’ head coach Billy Donovan to make the most of the talent available to him having been to the championship game on a few occasions and taking home two National Championships in the process.
Louisville is on just about everyone’s radar as the No. 1 seed most likely to make it on to Atlanta, and Indiana — at times anyway — has been as good as anyone in the country. When Tyler Zeller and Victor Oladipo are on their games, the Hoosiers are a handful — to put it lightly.
