This win makes the road trip 5-0-0 and a franchise first. The first period was scoreless but that quickly changed in the second by Leaf’s Phil Kessel with and unassisted goal at 19 seconds into the period. A few minutes later Daniel Winnik get’s the first goal for the Avalanche assisted by Ryan O’Reilly and Jan Hejda. Later in the second Milan Hejduk gets the tie breaking goal for the Avalanche assisted by Eric Johnson and Paul Stastny. The score stayed at 2-1 until about 15 minutes into the third when Leaf’s Nikolai Kulemin scores tying the game back up at 2-2 and the Avalanche head into their third OT of this road trip. Just over a minute into OT, David Jones gets the game winning goal assisted by Kyle Quincy. This was Jones 4th goal of the season which puts him in first for the Avalanche with Hejduk in second with 3 goals.

In net for the Avalanche was former Leaf goaltender, Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Giguere has played 2 games with the Avalanche now and won both. Also facing former teammates this game, former Avlanche players John-Michael Liles and Phillipe Dupuis are now with the Leafs. O’Byrne got in a great legal hit on Liles taking him into the boards.

McClement was wearing the third “A” for the evening for the second time this season. Now the question stands, will it keep cycling between Johnson, McLeod and McClement or will it switch to another group of 3 to rotate through?

The Avalanche are making it a stand that if you pick on a player, there will be pay back. As with O’Brien protecting Varly during the Montreal game, tonight O’Reilly was protecting Landeskog. On a few occasions Landeskog would get right up by the crease for scoring position and a Leaf would push him out of the way. Within a second O’Reilly was right there to pull the Leaf off and push back.
