T’Wolves Finally Showing the Love
Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

The Wolves are reportedly set to offer their franchise player, Kevin Love, a 4-year, $60 million deal. This coming two days after the predetermined deadline which Love had given the Wolves to assemble a new deal. This offer is said to be made official some time in the next eight days, but seeing as how this comes after the stars deadline, will it be too little, too late?

Love has picked up where he left off last season, averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds a game thus far, including 13 double-doubles. By the way, Minnesota has only played 13 games so far, if that puts his already eye-popping numbers into better perspective for you. I guess you could argue that he’s playing for a contract, but considering that he did this for an entire season in 2010, all evidence points to the fact that he is just getting started.

Love leads the Wolves in scoring, rebounding, steals, blocks and three-pointers made per game. Shockingly, the only numbers that he is not leading the team in are the ones that appear on his paychecks. In spite of all his leadership and clear cut superiority, Love is only the 6th highest paid player on the team. And if that isn’t bad enough, three of the five players ahead of him in the payroll department, start the game sitting on the bench.

I don’t know what is more astounding, that Love actually had to give the Front Office a deadline to make him an offer or that  they failed to do so within the parameters of his deadline. He is clearly the best player on their roster and being that they are operating as a small market team that is consistently well below .500 in the standings, they should feel fortunate that he has even asked for an extension and they better hope that he hasn’t been rubbed the wrong way by the seemingly unappreciative manner in which they have rewarded his efforts.
