Chicago Bulls One Player Away From Being A Dynasty

Every great NBA team in history had two contributing factors that overwhelmed the competition on their path to dominance; two superstars and a solid, deep bench. The 2012 Chicago Bulls are a superstar player away from being a basketball dynasty.

The last NBA dynasty is questionable to most fans. Were the San Antonio Spurs a dynasty during the late 90′s and early 2000′s? From 1999 to 2007, the Spurs won four titles. To each person, they will have their own view on the matter. In fact, only nine different NBA teams have won an NBA title since the 1972 season, but very few won in consecutive seasons.

I do not believe the Spurs were a dynastic franchise. They might have won four NBA Championships, but they never won back-to-back titles. The true sign of a any true champion or dynasty is winning when you have the bullseye on your back. San Antonio failed every time they were presented with the challenge of repeating. So for all intensive purposes, the last NBA dynasty was the Chicago Bulls of the 1990′s.

How emblematic that the current Bulls have the best opportunity to be the first dynasty in the NBA in over a decade? Derrick Rose, like Michael Jordan, is the star of the team and there is no question about it. The youngest league MVP in NBA history is seeking something that his predecessor Jordan possessed; a superstar teammate (Scottie Pippen). My argument that Pippen would of been an average NBA player if he never played with Jordan is a debate for another day, regardless MJ had a wingman. Rose needs one desperately and I am telling you that it is not Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah or any of the current Chicago Bulls.

Chicago relies on defense and scores off the opportunities created by their ferocious defense. Much like the Bulls of the 90′s, the transition game is a huge part of their success. However, another huge reason for their success is the bench depth. The Bulls have the best bench in the NBA, loaded with players who know their role. They work together brilliantly, but someone else needs to pick up the scoring when Rose is off the floor and currently that player is not on the roster. The Bulls need someone who can create his own shot like Rose, at will.

The Bulls starting line-up is one of the best in the league. They have veteran all-stars like Rip Hamilton and Carlos Boozer who lead through experience. Joakim Noah and Luol Deng are rising stars in the league that were homegrown by the Chicago organization. These three players, besides Boozer, are three key pieces to the Chicago title puzzle in the future. Nothing will come out of this carefully constructed team if another superstar is not added to the mix though.

Someone needs to take the defensive pressure off Derrick Rose, enough to draw a double team. Right now, the Bulls have the brightest upside of any team in the NBA, alongside the Oklahoma City Thunder. With the wonderful combination of youth and experience, Chicago is one player away from being the NBA’s next basketball dynasty.

  1. jamin says:

bulls are not a dynasty yet?? they havnt even one a tittle with rose so until
they start winning nba championships there not a dynasty in my view at least not yet however they are winning games right now but i do think rose dose need another dominate point gaurd to help him out he cant do it alone every night buy himself… thats why the bulls havnt one a championship yet in my view
but once they get that extra player or so they will be a very good team down
the road, i mean there good now pretty much with rose doing it himself, but they will get better i have know doubt on that one!!!! and hopefully will win
    a tittle or so too…
