Dwight Howard Still Wants To Be A Part Of The Los Angeles Lakers
Douglas Jones-US PRESSWIRE

Just recently it was reported through several outlets, and here on Rant Sports also, that Dwight Howard was now soured on the idea of being traded to the Orlando Magic and that he had informed Magic GM Otis Smith that he would not re-sign a contract with the Lakers. Well now it is being reported by CBS.com that Howard, despite contrary reports, does in fact have the Lakers high on his list of possible destinations. The report stated that the Nets, Mavericks, and Lakers are still the three teams on Howard’s list pre multiple sources close to the situation.

The Lakers would prefer to trade Pau Gasol rather than Andrew Bynum if they were in fact to do a deal for Howard. The Nets are also very interested in acquiring Howard and might be the front-runners to do so. The Nets have kept in constant contact with point guard Deron Williams and seem optimistic that he will pick up his player option after this season and stay with the team. Of course the Howard situation will determine Williams’ fate. If Howard goes elsewhere then, more than likely, Williams will either follow or sign elsewhere. But if the Nets can trade for Howard then Williams will re-sign with the club.

Another interesting note in the Howard trade saga was also provided by CBS.com’s report. Many people have wondered why this Howard trade situation has played out so long. I mean if no one knows it by now then I’ll fill you in, Dwight Howard is not going to play for the Orlando Magic past this season. His mannerisms are very indicative of one thing, that he does not wish to be a part of the Orlando Magic anymore. Fellow players have seemed to tune him out and he is no longer the leader of that team. The only reason for the trade stall may be this,  ”Dwight can’t make a decision,” a person briefed on the situation said. “If he’d make a decision, he’d be out of there.”

Once Howard picks a spot where he wants to be for the next seven years or so, it won’t be long until he is out of Orlando.
