4th Quarter Comeback Lifts Magic Over Bucks
Jeff Hanisch-US Presswire

Coming off of a heartbreaking overtime loss to Atlanta, the Orlando Magic (17-11) bounced back to beat the Milwaukee Bucks (12-15) 99-94 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

It was an awful offensive first quarter as the Magic shot 23% and the Bucks only 29%.  Orlando jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first three minutes but would only score nine points for the remainder of the quarter.  Milwaukee took the lead when they went on an 11-0 run as Drew Gooden and Luc Mbah a Moute dropped four points each.  The Bucks would hold that lead until, with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter, a Ryan Anderson layup gave the Magic their first lead since they were up 7-0.  Orlando would only get up by five though before Milwaukee would respond with an 8-0 run and would take a one point lead into the fourth.

Milwaukee looked to take control of the game early in the fourth quarter going on a 13-0 run and with 5:44 left, led 88-78.  But then it became the Jason Richardson show.  The Magic responded by going on a 16-0 run highlighted by four three pointers by Richardson.  Richardson hit eight threes on the second half on his way to 31 points.  That run deflated the Bucks and the Magic would go on to a five point win.

The Magic were led in this game by Jason Richardson.  After a Milwaukee fan called the 11-year veteran “washed up”, Richardson said he used that as motivation to go on and score 25 second half points and 17 in the fourth quarter.  His nine threes in the game tie him for the second most threes in a single game in franchise history, only two behind the record set by Dennis Scott in 1996.

After struggling over the last few games, Hedo Turkoglu also got going Saturday night.  Turkoglu dropped 19 points in Milwaukee adding five boards and six assists.  J.J. Redick scored in double figures again for the Magic with 14 points and Dwight Howard put up another double-double, though low numbers for him, with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

After both teams shot under 30% in the first quarter, both teams would finish over 40% for the game.  Part of the reason for the 10-point comeback for Orlando can be attributed to Dwight Howard only going to the line once in the game.  It was the least amount of time at the line this season for Howard as he leads the league in free throw attempts at over 11 per game.  The Magic also got hot after going down by 10 as they would go 6 for 7 from the field during their 16-0 run.  The Magic have now won five of their last seven games.

UP Next: The Magic will hit the floor next on Monday night when they head home to face the Minnesota Timberwolves (13-15) at the Amway Center.  Minnesota will come in with Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio but are coming off of a tough loss at home to New York Saturday.
