Rumor: Rasheed Wallace To Sign With Los Angeles Lakers
Jeff Hanisch- US PRESSWIRE

Long-time NBA big man and notorious hothead Rasheed Wallace hasn’t seen professional basketball action since the 2009-2010 season with the Boston Celtics, when the North Carolina Tar Heel-ex averaged nine points and f0ur rebounds per game in limited action.

Rumors have circulated in recent weeks that “Sheed” would soon have a new NBA home.

According to this report, this in fact has become true, as Rasheed Wallace will soon sign a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Wallace’s strong showing at a recent Pro-Am camp in North Carolina, and his renewed interest and health began to escalate the waning interest NBA teams had in the versatile power forward at the beginning of this strike-shortened season.

Rasheed Wallace could provide the Lakers with a nice offensive punch off the bench in limited minutes. He has always had the ability to shoot the ball from long-distance and is an adequate enough defender to not be taken advantage of by the NBA’s better big men.

On the flipside, Wallace’s temper and attitude issues could be the spark that ignites a volatile Lakers locker room.  Is Mike Brown ready to handle to wacky personalities like Metta World Peace and Rasheed Wallace in the same locker room? Doubtful.

Unless the Lakers believe the punch Wallace could bring to the lineup will outweigh the potential distractions, this move seems ill-fated and ill-advised.

Mitch Kupchak has been under fire in recent weeks for some of the decisions he has made, and those on which he has failed to pull the trigger.

Is this a last-ditch attempt to get the Lakers fans back on his side and make the team competitive for a playoff spot in the homestretch?

Perhaps.

Will it work?

We’ll see.
