Amidst several reports claiming his Dallas Mavericks teammates are questioning Odom’s commitment to the team. Cuban had this to say:

“I’m not worried about that at all,” he said before the Knick’s game Tuesday.

Odom went on leave the Wednesday before the All-star(to the dismay of my fantasy team), and didn’t return until Saturday’s Jazz game. Some sources have confirmed Odom went on leave because of his ailing father, but the reason for his overly delayed return is still unclear.

“Because you’ve got to deal with things,” Cuban said. “The goal is to solve the problem, not to look good. I can’t tell you how many times players have been concerned about other players. That’s just the nature of the beast. As I said, I’ve been through it a lot of times. I’ve got to try to put together a plan and stick through it in those cases. That’s exactly what I did.”

It was also reported that he did not make a statement to the team explaining his absence, but instead Odom did his speaking on the court (9 points, 5 boards, 3 assists and 3 blocks) in 18 minutes of play.

There were also reports claiming the former Sixth man of the Year wanted a buyout of his contract, so that he could report back to the Lakers or Clippers.

“That’s wrong,” Odom said Saturday. “I’m lucky, I’m blessed to be able to play for a team like this, an organization like this.”

Cuban seems to believe that Odom’s effort level will not be questioned anymore once he gets back into the season’s flow.

“He played great the first game back. He played not as well but well the second game back. He’s done everything he asked. He was here early this morning shooting.” Hopefully Odom is more than just present the rest of the year, because the Mavericks will need his full commitment to do anything more than fizzle out in the Playoffs.
