The Sacramento Kings could not trade J.J. Hickson during last Thursday’s NBA trade deadline so Monday the Kings decided to buy out the rest of Hickson’s contract. Hickson was expected to sign with the Golden State Warriors but SI.com’s Sam Amick is reporting that the Portland Trail Blazers won Hickson’s services through the waiver process.

According to The Oregonian’s Joe Freeman, the Trail Blazers will waive Mehmet Okur to make room for Hickson on the roster. Okur was acquired last week from the New Jersey Nets in a deal that sent Gerald Wallace back east.

Hickson is far from the numbers he put up in the 2010-11 season when he was averaging 13.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Hickson signed with the Kings this offseason but has not been putting up the numbers that everyone thought he was capable of after looking at what he did the previous year.

This year, Hickson is averaging 4.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 35 games. Hickson’s game highs this year are 14 points against Orlando Jan. 9 and 11 rebounds he recorded three times.
