Kobe Bryant on Derek Fisher: “I’m going to demolish him”
Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher have had their fair share of memories over their 16 years together with the Los Angeles Lakers. Five championships is a good place to start, not to mention the off-the-court relationship the two have developed. However, after Fisher was recently shipped to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Bryant admitted that his longtime teammate will get no sympathy when the two step on the court together on Mar. 29.

Via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:

“Look, we don’t get five championships by being sympathetic towards each other and kissing each other’s a– during the game,” Bryant said Wednesday when asked about the Lakers’ upcoming game against the Thunder next week. “I’m going to demolish him. He understands that. If he switches off on me in the post, there’s going to be problems. I’m sure he’ll put an elbow right in my back, and that’s why we love each other.”

Bryant takes the game as serious as any player in the NBA, and this quote is a testament to his tenacity o the court. Bryant is currently leading the league in PPG at 28.7, narrowly edging Kevin Durant, Fisher’s new teammate. Despite his scoring the Lakers have struggled to gain any consistency over the compressed schedule, yet still sit at third in the Western Conference at 29-18. Bryant and the Lakers trail the conference-leading Thunder by six games.

Fisher got a standing ovation in his first appearance with the Thunder Wednesday night:

Fisher finished with 5 points in 19 minutes off the bench in a 114-91 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
