There are only a limited amount of days until the NBA playoffs and I know that I am not the only one looking forward to it. The season has been shortened but it has felt so long since we started in December after an elongated lockout that preceded this NBA season.

In the Western Conference, there are a lot of good teams but there may be teams that could upset a few of the top teams in the league. We saw the Los Angeles Clippers destroy the Oklahoma City Thunder this past Monday. The Thunder are supposed to be the top team in the league. Fatigue may be starting to set in but everyone will on their A game when playoff time comes.

Let’s delve into three possible team that could pull off upsets in the Western Conference and have the possibility to shock the world.

1). Los Angeles Clippers (Potential Seed: 4)
The Clippers are one of those teams that you are expecting to make some kind of big splash, especially since they acquired point guard Chris Paul from the New Orleans Hornets in one of the most controversial trades ever. The Clippers have established the moniker of Lob City this season and they are officially bringing Lob City to the playoffs for the first time since the 2005-2006 season when Mike Dunleavy was their head coach.

The Clippers have the potential to go deep in the playoffs and may bring a championship home to the Staples Center that will not say Lakers.

2). Dallas Mavericks (Potential Seed: 7)
It is kind of shocking to think that the defending NBA champion Dallas Maviercks could be considered as underdogs as they are not even a year removed from their championship. However, with the recent turmoil within the organization regarding Lamar Odom, it may be that the Mavericks have to dig from within to find themselves in the finals.

I think that the Mavericks could over come the recent turn of events to pull off an upset or two in the playoffs. Do not count out Dirk Nowitzki or Jason Terry when they are in the thick of things. They upset the Miami Heat last year and could upset anyone in the league this year.

3). Memphis Grizzlies (Potential Seed: 5)
The Memphis Grizzlies have been the sleeping giant in the Western Conference for some time now. You should really be scared of the combination of Rudy Gay, O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley. Add O.J. Mayo and Zach Randolph in there and you have a team that is looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Their projected matchup right now is against the Clippers and that potential series could go either way. Do not be surprised if you see  yourself getting angry over the Grizzlies defeating your team in the playoffs.
