Is LeBron James Worthy Of “Employee Of The Year” Title?
In an unsurprising move by the press writers of America, LeBron James was announced as the Most Valuable Player of the National Basketball Association this year. After having one of the greatest season’s off all time, Nike has come out with a new slogan for LeBron: “Employee of the Year. 3 MVP’s on his desk, 1 thing on his mind.” But is LeBron worth the title “Employee of the Year”?
Sure, LeBron had one of the greatest seasons of all time. He averaged 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assits per game in 37.5 minutes per game. This is the second time in his career that he has done that, and makes him just the fourth player to have those statistics in multiple seasons. The others? Oscar Robertson did it five times, while John Havlicek and Larry Bird both did it twice.
Even more impressive is when one looks deeper into the stats. James also shot 53% from the field, and added 1.9 steals per game. Only one player had ever upped that, and, of course, that was the greatest himself, Michael Jordan.
Being the MVP of the league, I guess that means you are the employee of the year, but is LeBron worth that title? How many times was did he bow out in the final minutes of big time games? LeBron did not win this award by accident, he had a fantastic season, I just do not agree with the newly bestowed title by Nike.
Employee’s of the Year show up in the big time moments. They take charge and carry their colleagues. They find a way to meet deadlines with impressive results, and give credit to their fellow employees before themselves.
LeBron? Yea, we all know how that story goes. Worthy of the MVP, yes, but not worthy of that title. Save it for someone who finishes games.
