Houston Rockets Reach Deal With Free Agent Carlos Delfino
Carlo Delfino is a sneaky good basketball player so many people were wondering when he was going to get a new deal. Monday was the day it all came together as the Houston Rockets agreed to a one year deal with the veteran swingman. Delfino will certainly be one of the veterans of the squad.
Carlos Delfino is a pretty good shooter and should be a big part of the Rockets offense next year. He will be needed to show the rookies the ropes and help them adjust to playing in the professional leagues. Their roster is chock full of kids so they will need a guy like Carlos to help the team develop.
This could mean that the Rockets are going to try to move Kevin Martin for more cap space or they could be using Delfino to start at the three position. Either way, the guy is going to be playing a lot of minutes early in the season. His minutes might fall late in the year but he should be a good shooter for the team.
He had some great plays in the Olympics, so Delfino can still ball. It was shocking that he was a free agent for so long but many think that he was waiting until his Olympic commitments were over to finally pick a brand new team. The Rockets need a guy like him, so it is a pretty good deal. They have a team option on him next year, so this deal can work out in a number of ways.
Do not be surprised if the team leans on Carlos Delfino a lot next season. People have always overlooked him and he might just finally get his due. Someone is going to have to score for that team and Delfino can certainly do that.
