Since Tony Romo took over as quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, the month of December has been a kryptonite for the team. Romo is 7-10 in games played during the Holiday Season, but this season he enters the Christmas season on a four-game winning streak. Add the fact the Cowboys are leading the NFC East by one game and this could be the biggest December for Romo yet. As usual, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is optimistic his team will continue its winning ways through the end of the calendar year.

“I don’t think we have a bad case of that flu, which is the flu that we had last year, which said when the ball is snapped, something bad’s going to happen,” Jones said. “That’s been turned around. We’ve got the good condition of something good will happen. I think that, as much as anything, is what losing in the early part of the year did for our team as far as motivation is concerned. I think we are motivated.”

Romo has played some of the best football of his career over the past four weeks, which is typical for him in the month of November. Indeed, Romo is 19-2 leading up to Thanksgiving and is 5-0 on Turkey Day.

The Cowboys have a golden opportunity to win the NFC East this season with the lead, the Arizona Cardinals next on the schedule and two games against the New York Giants left, who are currently in second place in the NFC East.

“We’ve played well enough to be in the hunt,” Jones said. “That was my wish, that we could play that well.”

Dallas is on a roll, even though the Cowboys’ last two wins were too close for comfort against bad teams. Still, Jones thinks his team is talented enough to finish the season strong and win the NFC East. That means winning in the month of December. When asked if he thought the Cowboys would suffer another losing December, Jones didn’t surprise with his answer.

“I don’t think so,” Jones said. “I think it’s just too fresh and it was too impactful to have the disappointment that we had last year. I know on a personal basis and I know for many members of our team’s leadership that last year was one of the biggest disappointments that we’ve had and the biggest surprises. I think that’s too fresh on our memories.”
