You can’t hide the fact that Vince Carter had his worst season of his career last year with the Dallas Mavericks. In fact, the last four seasons you could have said it was his worst year of his career. That’s not good news if you’re a Mavericks fan. Especially when you look at Paul Pierce and think he’s skinny compared to Vince. Carter’s declining play and sluggish body are on the wrong track to an early retirement.

Vince Carter is widely known for his spectacular dunks. From winning the NBA Dunk Contest in the late 90′s, to dunking over a 7’3 center in the Olympics. These are the reasons why he was nicknamed “Vinsanity.” Those days in his career are long gone and his career as of now looks to be in jeopardy. With His struggling play last season and 8 other guards who will fight for playing time, Carter could be relegated to the bench. Yes, Vince Carter could be benched next season. O.J Mayo will definitely be the starting shooting guard. Guys like Dahntay Jones, Rodrigue Beaubois and Delonte West will most likely take some playing time away from Carter off the bench at the two-guard spot. If Carter wants to keep a meaningful spot in the rotation he will need to come to camp in shape. He will need to show some of that old Vince Carter swagger. Most importantly, he will have to fight for it.

With all the new additions and re-signings i wouldn’t be surprised to see the  Dallas Mavericks shop Carter and get anything they can just to dump him off on another team. It feels strange to say that, but it’s the reality surrounding Vince. Last season in 61 games, Vince averaged just 10 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25 minutes a game. He racked up his worst shooting percentage of his career as well, shooting just 41%. Him averaging 10 points a game is 11 points from his career average.

Vince is starting to enter the twilight of his career, and it may be too late to find the fountain of youth like so many other players have the last couple of seasons. Look out Vinsanity fans, next season might be it for him.

  1. Dennis says:

I respect this article. However the Mavericks or any older team you seldom see combo players. vetrean teams players KNOW thier role and play it never try to do to much. 41 percent is not bad at all for a x high flyer and i could actually see vince’s stats going up as teams prepare for such a heavily fortified front court

    • Kyle Adams says:

I agree that 41% is not bad at all, but you can’t ignore it’s his worst of his career. And not all veteran players know their role. Look at Iverson, Arenas and other guys who are out of the league. Vince has the talent to have a better season, but he needs to get back in shape
