The favorite pass time this summer for Denver Bronco fans, those covering the team and every other person in North America has been talking about Peyton Manning’s arm. Is it back? Will it ever be the same? Can he still win games without throwing the deep ball? This will not satisfy everyone but folks, Manning’s arm strength is a non-issue following Monday’s practice. Is it as strong as it was five years ago, probably not but Manning has shown that he can still make every throw that he needs to make.

Manning had his best practice as a Bronco on Monday, a practice that was highlighted by two long passes. The first one was a go route to receiver, Eric Decker that traveled 50+ yards in the air and hit Decker in stride. This was not one of those passes that threatens to bring rain, no it was on a rope. Minutes later the two hooked up again on a deep post that beat, Champ Bailey who had excellent coverage on the play. Bailey was frustrated at the time and explained why after practice.

You can’t cover a guy and (when) his ball placement is so perfect. It’s frustrating because when you are all over a guy and you can’t do anything except watch him catch it. Not a lot of quarterbacks are that sharp, I’d say 90% of them are not that sharp.

Manning was also sharp in the red zone where he threw three touchdown passes on three consecutive plays, with two going to Demaryius Thomas. Yes it is only practice but arm strength does not go away just because it is a game, and Manning showed on Monday that any lingering questions about his arm strength are unfounded.

There are still plenty of questions to be answered surrounding the Denver Broncos but Peyton Manning’s arm strength is no longer one of them.

  1. Michael says:

Well, not completely “unfounded.” I mean, he did miss a whole year after multiple neck surgeries and then the team that he made great dumped him. I mean, a couple questions here and there might not hurt? Like, has Manning taken a hit yet?

    • Joe Morrone says:

First of all, thank you Michael for taking the time to read my article. I appreciate it! I never talked about the neck and the surgeries, the article was about his arm strength which at this point is fine. As for the neck, no one knows for sure until he gets hit but I had roughly the same surgery and asked my Doctor about Manning. He said that Manning’s neck is stronger now than it ever has been. You can take that for whatever it’s worth but my Doctor and others see no issue with it. Again thank you for reading and your feedback.
