There are many positives to look for as the Denver Broncos meet the  Arizona Cardinals for their final preseason game.  One is the health of the starting squad, another being the progress of the offense into what I believe will be a fantasy feast in the NFL in 2012.  One thing the coaches will not  be looking forward to is having to trim the rosters down by 7:00pm Friday.  Tomorrow’s game will be the last audition for many players that will be waived or put on the practice squad, and the hardest part for the coaches will be to keep the spirits high in order to get the most out of these back-up players who will look to fill the roster.

Earlier today, Andre Caldwell, a free agent who signed from the Cincinnati Bengals, tweeted how the Broncos were spending their Wednesday night while waiting to arrive in Arizona:

We been stuck on the air plane for like 2 hours with no AC it's hit as heck..

This is surely not the way to keep the players happy.  He continued to tweet that:

Whole team mad and sweating in our suites

While the Broncos wait for the plane to take off and the AC to be turned on, here are a couple players that need to have stellar performances on Thursday night in order to be considered to make John Fox’s roster.

QB: Caleb Hanie and Adam Weber.  It makes no sense to me for the Broncos to keep Hanie, unless they assign Weber to the practice squad again.  But if any one of the three backups need to play, the Broncos will have no shot at prolonged winning.  If Weber has a good game in Arizona, I fully expect Hanie to be released.

RB: Knowshon Moreno. I am sure this trip to Arizona for Jeremiah Johnson is a moot point, and probably will be for Moreno also.  I don’t know if Moreno can make this team without rushing for 70-80yds and a TD, but he is sure to give it a try.  I look for Fox to release Moreno so he can latch on somewhere else(Jets, anybody?)

LB: Keith Brooking and Mike Mohammed. I know Fox has been cited as saying that he does not need to see much on field action from Brooking to know what he brings to the table.  But I do believe that Mohammed will show up in Arizona and make this a difficult decision for Fox.

While most of the roster seems set, these are the most prominent positions that Fox has to deal with.  It is clear that because of the relative health of the first team, it makes it easier to fill the roles that normally would have been battled for in preseason.
