Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

It was a great night to be at the ballpark on Friday night. The Detroit Tigers were coming off a long nine game road trip, and needed to come back home where they have played some of their best baseball this season.

Anibal Sanchez had the hill for the Tigers on Friday night. In his debut against the Blue Jays, he had given up five runs in six innings. Tonight, it was a different story.

Sanchez had the Indians’ hitters number all night. In six innings, Sanchez gave up eight hits, two runs, one earned and struck out five. Exactly what the Tigers had hoped to see when they made the trade for him a little over a week ago.

Although Sanchez was great, the big story of the night was the Tigers’ offense. Brennan Boesch started off the offense in the second by reaching on an infield hit. Alex Avila hit a double that should of been a fly out, but got some help by Ezequiel Carrera, who had a very rough night in left field.

Prince Fielder doubled in Quintin Berry and Austin Jackson in the third, and very nearly hit a three run home run. It was just the start of Fielder’s big night.

The Tigers really broke the game open in the fourth inning, by scoring four more runs. Thanks in part to a Berry double that scored Ramon Santiago, a Miguel Cabrera single that scored Berry, and Fielder would collect two more RBI’s by hitting his 18th home run of the year. Putting the Tigers up 7-1.

Andy Dirks returned to the lineup  on Friday. In his return Dirks went 2-for-4 and collected a RBI in his first game since May.

The Tigers offense would put up 16 hits and 10 runs on Friday. The most hits in a home game in nearly two months.

Tomorrow Ubaldo Jimenez (8-10) will face off against Doug Fister (5-7) for the second time this season. Fister is 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA since the All Star break, and hopes to pitch the Tigers to their third straight win.
