Fantasy Baseball: Junior Lake Proves He Is Dynasty League Keeper

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

One young hitter that has burst onto the scene over the last couple months of the fantasy baseball season has been Chicago Cubs SS/OF Junior Lake.

The Dominican was previously used strictly as an infielder, but he has made amazing strides into developing into an everyday outfielder. The team was comfortable letting OF Alfonso Soriano go to the New York Yankees for a reason, and it was because of the confidence they have in the 23-year-old.

Lake was called up right after the All-Star break and he has been one of the team’s best hitters since that point. In 46 games since the break, Lake has a very underrated .309 batting average and .350 On Base Percentage. He has also hit all six of his home runs and driven in all 16 of his runs since the turn.

Earlier last week, Lake hit a grand slam and bunted for a single in the same game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Not many young hitters have that kind of potential, but Lake showed that he is becoming a true dual-threat fantasy option.

Lake is clearly worth hanging onto in dynasty formats, especially in anytime of auction league. He has cemented himself in Chicago’s outfield and has many years ahead of him of decent fantasy production.
