2013 Fantasy Football: Midseason All Fantasy Team

The midway point of both the fantasy and real life football season is here now.

Some players have performed exactly as well as they were expected to, like LeSean McCoy being third in running back scoring or Dez Bryant being third among wide receiver scoring. Some players have grossly underperformed, such as Robert Griffin III being 17th in overall scoring, behind Jamaal Charles and Russell Wilson, or Anquan Boldin being outside the top 25 in wide receiver scoring. Other players have overachieved, like Andy Dalton being the sixth leading scorer so far, or Fred Jackson, not C.J. Spiller, being the ninth highest scoring running back.

If you are the lucky fantasy owner of a player on this list, congratulations are in order for either drafting well or being shrewd enough to pull a good trade out and help your team. These players have each had monster games and have been consistent enough week to week that they could almost (or are in some cases) be (are) considered matchup proof. It is a great thing as a fantasy owner to know that despite what other lineup issues you may be dealing with that these players are always there to be counted on (with the exception of bye week blues) to help you win your week.

Some of these players were first round selections, others were waiver wire darlings who’s ownership has shot through the roof. Now at the halfway point of the real life season, time is running out for fantasy owners near the bottom of the standings. It will most likely cost you an arm and a leg, but if you can acquire any of these players, your team had a much better chance for a playoff push. If you have any of these guys and have depth at the position, you could certainly improve any areas of weakness on your roster by putting these players on the trading block.

Whatever course of action you choose, there is no doubting that these players are worthy of being named to the midseason All Fantasy Team.

Quarterback: Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning is far and away the leader in yards (2,919) touchdown passes (29), per game scoring average (34.27) and overall scoring (274.16) in standard scoring formats. Drew Brees is second in scoring with 208.9 points, a difference of 65.26 points, equivalent to an 11 touchdown lead.

Wide Receiver 1: Calvin Johnson

Calvin Johnson is without question the best wide receiver option in fantasy football. He has the size and strength to out jump and overpower defensive backs. He leads the league in receiving yards by 87 and is third in touchdown receptions with seven. Going into week nine, his 121 fantasy points are tops amongst receivers.

Wide Receiver 2: Wes Welker

Wes Welker is actually 17th in receiving yards, but is second in fantasy wide receiver scoring on the strength of his nine receiving touchdowns. Welker has to compete for targets with Demaryius Thomas, Erick Decker and Julius Thomas, but is the preferred red zone target for Peyton Manning.

Running Back 1: Jamaal Charles

Jamaal Charles has been a monster this season, thriving in Andy Reid’s offense. Charles is the leading running back in fantasy by 15.4 points. Week eight was the first time that Charles failed to find the end zone, but he has had over 100 yards in every game this season, despite being the only offensive threat for his team.

Running Back 2: Knowshon Moreno

Knowshon Moreno is the second in running back scoring despite starting this season in a time share and on the waiver wire in most leagues. As defenses continue to fear the Peyton Manning passing attack, Moreno is benefiting from open boxes, acquiring 744 all purpose yards and nine touchdowns.

Tight End: Jimmy Graham

Jimmy Graham is blowing away the competition at tight end. Nobody else is even close. His 111 points are 16.4 points more than second place Jordan Cameron. He leads tight ends in yards (630), touchdowns (eight) and is second in receptions (40) despite having a bye and being on a limited snap count last week.

Kicker: Matt Prater

This one should be pretty obvious. Playing on the number one team offense, Matt Prater benefits from multiple chances to score. He hasn’t missed on the season, connecting on all 12 field goal attempts and all 43 point after attempts. As long as the Denver Broncos keep their pace, Prater remains one of the top kicking options in fantasy.

Defense/Special Teams: Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are leading D/ST scoring by 33.8 points. They have allowed the second fewest points against and are second in defensive touchdowns. They lead the league in sacks and fumble recoveries and are top 10 in most categories. As long as the defense keeps up, the Chiefs are capable of beating any team in football.
