One of the most fun things about the beginning of fantasy baseball season is thinking of a creative team name. Besting your friends and co-workers in name creating can be just as satisfying as winning in the early going.
With that in mind, and fantasy drafts set for the next couple weeks, here are the 15 greatest fantasy team names of all time.
This is a simple play on words with reliever Joakim Soria. It's simple, but effective.
This one is an oldy, but a goody. Obviously a play on the popular breakfast cereal and Japanese hitting star, this one has been a favorite of fantasy baseball players for years.
A more recent play on words, the Cleveland Indians' middle infielder has his name mixed with the iconic Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games. It's a little childish, but it's creative nonetheless.
If you read the Baltimore Orioles' third baseman's name the correct way, then this one doesn't make much sense. However, on the second or third read, it starts to make more sense, and that is what makes a good team name.
This is both a great pun and provides some subtle irony. Some controversy surrounding the shipment of Braun's eventual positive PED test was in the media for a while, and of course this team name is a pun based on the shipping and mailing service UPS.
It's very simplistic, but it doesn't take much thought. For some fantasy owners, that's all they need in a funny team name.
Mixed with the popular fast food chain, Jacoby Ellsbury makes for a clever team name. There's lots of letter mixing here, and it makes it that much funnier.
The now Blue Jays shortstop, who could win many races in his own right, mixes well with the popular reality TV show. Very punny indeed.
Based on the popular Seth Rogen movie, Morneau clearly has an unfortunate sounding last name when it comes to rhyming.
This isn't only based on a movie, but it's based on a baseball movie, which makes it that much better. Yasiel Puig and women playing professional baseball are kind of on opposite sides of the baseball spectrum, but it works nonetheless.
Yet another baseball movie pun, this one is great because it has to do with Trout's own team. This is almost too perfect.
Even though the Atlanta Braves don't play in Kansas, the band that originally performed "Carry On My Wayward Son," his name creates an entertaining team name possibility.
Based on the iconic film starring Liam Neeson, Ian Kinsler's name fits nicely into this team name pun. It's a soft rhyme, but a rhyme nonetheless.
This really interesting and funny-sounding rhyme based on the Marlon Brando classic film/play is great. How else would you describe finding a rhyme between "desire" and "Cuddyer"?
Best pitcher in baseball, best pun in fantasy baseball. Based on the great film, this team name is a combination of one of the best films of all time, and one of the best pitchers of this generation, which makes it the best fantasy team name.
