2014 Fantasy Baseball: Drop Ben Revere Like a Bad Habit

Ben Revere

There’s no doubt that fantasy owners who have Dee Gordon are leading their leagues in the stolen base categories. However, with the right combination of players, another owner could take lead that category. One of those players owners were using was Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Ben Revere. However, in recent weeks, Revere’s value has greatly dropped.

Revere began the season as the leadoff hitter and was a great source of batting average and stolen bases. In 24 April games, Revere stole 10 bases with a .299 batting average. However, in the 13 games in May, Revere is hitting .190 with just two stolen bases. Revere is still tied for sixth with 12 bag swipes.

Revere missed the weekend with an illness. He pitch hit on Wednesday, but went 0-for-1. During his absence, Tony Gwynn Jr. started in center field. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. stated that there are no plans to option Revere to Triple-A. As a result, he is now in a platoon with Gwynn Jr. in the outfield until he begins to produce again.

In 88 games last season, he hit.305 while stealing 22 bases. He spent some time as the leadoff hitter before being benched in May to work on his offense. His season came to an end after he suffered from a broken foot. He entered the 2014 season healthy, but that didn’t last long.

Revere is owned in just 50.8 percent of ESPN.com leagues. There has been a drop of 28.2 percent in the last week. Until he begins to hit and get on base, Revere serves no purpose. He doesn’t hit for power and can’t drive in runners, zero home runs and five RBI this season.

If you own Revere, see what value is on the waiver wire. You can easily replace his stolen bases all while upgrading his power (or lack thereof). Revere may not be in the majors for much longer.
