2014 Fantasy Football Bust: TE Eric Ebron

Detroit Lions  QB Matthew Stafford throws the ball more than any other quarterback in the game, evident by his league-high 2,024 passing attempts over the past three seasons, so naturally the fantasy football world went crazy with the possibilities when they added TE Eric Ebron in the first round of this year’s draft.

Unfortunately, Ebron has struggled catching the ball during camp and in the preseason. He has been plagued by drops all summer, which is  pretty shocking considering that he considered more of a receiving tight end.

Ebron has also severely struggled to pick up pass protection this season. He has consistently  missed blocks and the rookie is looking like a real liability as a blocker. Now he obviously wasn’t drafted to be a blocking tight end, but he must be able to at least hold his own before the team treads him out there on a reliable basis.

Ebron has improved his route running and has limited his drops in practice in recent weeks. However, he still has a ways to go before becoming an every down tight end in Detroit. Ebron will be eased into the offense and will see plenty of time on the pine during the early weeks of the 2014 season. Don’t make him a top-10 TE just yet.

Ebron has an average ADP of 131.6, which is shockingly ahead of Heath Miller (134) and Charles Clay (138.7). The rookie is not showing enough to warrant a high draft pick so far this preseason. There are plenty of other reliable options out there and it would be better to let someone else roll with a rookie tight end all season long.
