Running back Adrian Peterson continues to top fantasy football league drafts as the overall No. 1 pick by the majority of owners. Rightfully so in the eyes of many, because his production and consistency in racking up plenty of fantasy points makes him a true investment with your No. 1 overall pick. This season, however, Peterson will be put into a new role offensively on the Minnesota Vikings that could increase his worth.

In an effort to reduce the physical pounding his body receives on a daily basis, the Vikings will deploy more shotgun plays as well as multiple-receiver formations on offense. It will allow Peterson to not only rack up yards on the ground but also through the air as a slot receiver or on screen plays. This should help bring a nice new dimension to the Vikings’ offense as well as make Peterson more durable to withstand a full season healthy without only having to run the football up the gut.

Throughout training camp, a few plays featuring Peterson’s new role on offense were executed very nicely and should bode very well for fantasy football owners everywhere. Having a dual-threat option with the caliber of what Peterson brings to the table will essentially double up anything he’s done in the past.

It’s a big move for him as he’ll be elevating his career into new territory by adding more weapons to his already impressive arsenal. With a new and improved offense spearheaded by offensive coordinator Norv Turner, Peterson should have an incredible season.

Keep in mind that Turner has worked with past legends in Emmitt Smith and LaDainian Tomlinson, and he knows how to make a running back a premier piece on offense. Expect big things out of Peterson this year and enjoy racking up a ton of fantasy points, because this could be his best season yet — especially with a brand new offense geared towards making him a true multipurpose threat.
