2014 Fantasy Football Buy or Sell: Kenny Britt

I would have loved to see Kenny Britt’s fantasy football potential if he signed with the New England Patriots, but he still has upside as a member of the St. Louis Rams.

Despite being a 6-foot-3, 223-pound target, Britt was never able to establish himself within the offense of the Tennessee Titans. A member of the league since 2009, we still only have a limited body of work on which to judge Britt. He has never recorded more than 45 catches in a season, and he only received 35 targets last season. Britt is still only 25 years old, however, so he has yet to even hit his prime.

Even though he has had limited opportunities, I still like the fact that on only 42 receptions in 2010, Britt was able to haul in nine touchdown catches and average 64.6 receiving yards per game. He doesn’t have blazing speed, but he is quick enough to create separation from himself and his defenders. Outside of tight end Jared Cook, Britt is one of the biggest pass catchers on the team, which is obviously important for red zone looks.

If Sam Bradford was going to be the starter, I would be weary of drafting Britt. The Rams really spread the ball around when Bradford started last season, and with Zac Stacy emerging as a valuable presence in the rushing attack, I think Britt would have remained limited in his fantasy potential. With Shaun Hill as the starting signal caller, however, I think Britt provides a perfect safety blanket for the aging quarterback to target frequently.

I have seen Britt going anywhere from the 12th-14th round in most of my drafts, and he is a great value at that position. I don’t think Britt is a top-10 receiver, but I think he could sneak his way into the bottom of the top 20.

With increased opportunities, I am buying in Britt for the 2014 fantasy football season.
