Fantasy Football Week 1 Start or Sit: Sammy Watkins

Sammy Watkins, 2014 Fantasy Football, Buffalo Bills

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills surprised a ton of people when they picked playmaker Sammy Watkins out of Clemson in the first round. Although they have needs across the board, the Bills decided to give young quarterback E.J. Manuel one of the electric players to come out of college in the past few years. Although he played in a college-only type of offense, Watkins is a special player and he can bring it to the house at any given time.

With Manuel coming back healthy, the combination of Manuel and Watkins could be an extremely dangerous one. The problem with rookie wide receivers is that it usually takes them a while to get adjusted to an NFL playbook. A.J. Green and Keenan Allen are just a few players who played exceptionally well in their rookie seasons. Watkins has the talent to be an intriguing player in his rookie year, but he will need to sure up some parts of his game before he gets put in that category.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has been raving about Watkins’ ability throughout the past few months. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Bills lined up Watkins inside and out. Although the Chicago Bears improved their defense in the offseason, this defense still has some problems, and the Bills have the chance to take advantage of that on Sunday. A funny fact to know is that Watkins might line up against Kyle Fuller, who played his college football at Virginia Tech. Watkins and Fuller have had some good matchups in the ACC in the past. In his first professional game, I’m buying Watkins. The Bills want to showcase their new stud receiver and it will all happened on Sunday in Chicago.
