Heading into the 2014 fantasy football season, Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington was one of the most popular sleeper picks. He took over as the team’s number one running back and the fantasy community bought the hype.

Unfortunately, Ellington almost missed the opening game of the season. He has been dealing with a nagging foot injury for weeks, and even though it reportedly can’t get any worse, it will certainly limit him throughout the rest of the season. He will be a major question mark for the remainder of the season.

The back that directly stands to benefit from Ellington’s setback is his backup Jon Dwyer. The veteran racked up 20 rushing yards on seven attempts in Week 1 against the San Diego Chargers and will be a major factor in the offense from here on out. It is only a matter of time until Ellington misses time, so it would be better to stash the backup away now.

No matter what, though, Dwyer is still the primary goal line back in Zona. He is a tough inside rusher and his stout 229-pound frame makes him almost impossible to bring down on the first hit. Dwyer will pillage touchdowns all season and that alone makes him worth the roster spot.

Dwyer is owned in under 20% of ESPN formats at the moment and the veteran is worth adding in all formats. He won’t be worth starting just yet, but he will be worth hanging onto for the long haul.
