Fantasy Football: Jay Cutler Projection For Week 2

Jay Cutler Chicago Bears

Mike Dinovo- USA TODAY Sports

In Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, Jay Cutler’s fantasy performance far outweighed his actual on-field performance. Cutler threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions, the second of which cost the Chicago Bears a chance to take a fourth quarter lead, but statistically any fantasy owner would have been quite happy with last week’s results.

This week presents a challenge for Cutler as the Bears face the San Francisco 49ers. It’s fair to say that the Bears’ offense and the Dallas Cowboys‘ offense are similar. Cutler and Tony Romo both make questionable decisions at times, DeMarco Murray and Matt Forte are both very good running backs and the Cowboys have Dez Bryant and Jason Witten while the Bears answer with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Most would probably agree that the Bears’ offense is a little stronger, but I think you could expect similar numbers from the Chicago offense in Week 2 to that of what the Cowboys put up in Week 1. I don’t expect Cutler to turn the ball over like Romo did early in last week’s game, but I think expecting the offense to score around 20 to 24 points is likely.

Another issue to keep in mind is that both Marshall and Jeffery are banged up and are questionable for the game Sunday night. Starting offensive linemen Matt Slauson and Roberto Garza have both already been ruled out as well.

I expect that Jeffery and Marshall will both play, although not at 100 percent, and I expect Cutler’s performance to be decent but nothing outstanding. The 49ers will most likely have a lead in this game, so the Bears may have to throw more often in the second half which could give Cutler’s performance a boost.

If Cutler is your only option at quarterback you should survive, but if you have other legitimate options on your roster, I would strongly consider them.

Week 2 Prediction: 49ers 34, Bears 24

Jay Cutler- 285 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
