After his suspension by the NFL was reduced to two games, Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker is back in play for fantasy football action in Week 3. However, is Welker ready to start on your fantasy team? If last week’s handling of the Seattle Seahawks, that was administered by the San Diego Chargers‘ high-powered air attack, was the blueprint for success against the Legion of Boom, then surely Peyton Manning has a copy of it on file.
The Seattle secondary couldn’t guard Chargers veteran TE Antonio Gates to save their lives, and they also gave up some ground to slot receiver, Eddie Royal. At this rate, Broncos TE Julius Thomas will have a field day and Welker will provide plenty of problems playing in the slot receiver position.
Over the first two games, the Broncos offense has been hot in the first half, but then stagnation has taken over in the second half. Manning was at his best last year, when he had Welker on the field. Therefore, it’s no surprise that fill-ins like Andre Caldwell, Jacob Tamme or Isaiah Burse, haven’t kept the Denver offense clicking like it should.
Expect Welker to be on a limited snap count against Seattle, but he will be effective enough to do some damage, especially since the Broncos will be out for revenge after they were thoroughly embarrassed in the Super Bowl by the Seahawks.
If you have Welker on your fantasy roster, start him at the flex position in confidence that he’ll be freed up by Thomas (the tight end), as Denver looks to sustain their offensive attack for four quarters in a huge statement game.
