NHL Fantasy Hat Trick
Hot and Cold Edition
January 1, 2012

This is a fantasy hockey based weekly blog, where I will feature 3 hot and 3 cold players each week, every weekend. So that you can use my suggestions, update and prepare your fantasy teams accordingly for the coming week.

3 HOT
Steve Downie (TB) – After a dismal first 2 months of the regular season, Downie has produced much better numbers in December with 4 goals and 7 assist. Earlier this season Downie was the player to drop, but his recent performance has gotten him up to 32% ownership in yahoo leagues. If he is still out there on the free agent list now is the time to pick him up. He is also an excellent source of penalty minutes.

Steven Stamkos (TB) – Stamkos lead all players last week in goals with six, his performance was due to a hat trick yesterday in a 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. This could be the year Stamkos breaks 100 points in a season… I can feel it!

Raphael Diaz (MTL) – This 24 year old defenceman from Switzerland has played an impressive rookie season thus far. Diaz’s opportunity was because of a banged up Habs defensive core. Diaz’s best performance was a couple nights ago on December 27, where he recorded 3 assist in a 6-2 win over the Ottawa Senators. He is only owned in 2% of yahoo leagues, he is worth a look at in leagues with 12 teams or more.

3 COLD
Corry Perry (ANH) – No reason to be alarmed for fantasy owners but Perry has gone pointless in his last four games. You have to go back to the midway point of the 2009/10 season to find Perry’s last four game drought.

Dan Boyle (SJS) – Boyle has been on my cold list several times this season. He’s 34 years old and by my point of view, on a decline. I do not expect Boyle to continue streak of 50 points a season.

Brent Burns (SJS) – I guess when one San Jose Shark defenseman is not playing well, it hurts other Shark defenseman. After a 46 point performance last season with the Minnesota Wild, Burns has recorded 12 points in 34 games with his new team. It’s been such a disappointing season for Shark defenseman.
