Today marked the start of of the fifth stock sale in Green Bay Packers history. This sale will be used to pay for renovations at Lambeau Field. I could bore you with all the details about the sale, but that’s not the point of this article. The point is defend the reason that Packers fan everywhere buy this stock.
We all realize that the stock is just a piece of paper that we shelled out 275 bucks for. We know that the rights we get are basically worthless. So we can vote in meetings and have access to some special memorabilia, big deal right? Fans of other teams just don’t get it, mainly because they have never had the option to do something like this.
Green Bay is a team without a true owner, except for the fans who support it. Sure it makes money, but isn’t that kind of the point? It’d be difficult to have a football team without making money. Other fan bases buy season tickets to attend every home game. What’s the difference between watching live and watching on TV? I can argue that spending money on season tickets is just as dumb as buying this “stock”. At least if I watch at home, I have all the comforts of a warm house, plenty of food and drink, and access to replays. At the stadium, theres a good chance you end up with crappy seats and something getting spilled on you. People with season tickets shell out a lot more dough than I just did for a piece of Packers stock.
Packers fans don’t have access to season tickets unless they found the secret to immortality. This is what the franchise offers us and so we will take it. I have lots of other Packers merchandise, but this is the icing on the cake. I’ve always wanted this and I feel more connected to the franchise.
You might all think I’m crazy, but I don’t care. Packers fan everywhere should feel blessed that they have the chance to support the franchise like this. Other fan bases will make fun, but who cares what they think? Packers fans support (arguably) the greatest franchise in football and we are happy to help the Packers raise funding for whatever they may need.
