The NFL’s newly found focus on player safety apparently knows no boundaries.

On Wednesday the NFL issued a $20,000 fine against Jaguars undrafted rookie linebacker Mike Lockley for a hit he made in last Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.

The $20,000 fine is likely a large chunk of what Lockley is getting paid as an undrafted player in camp for the Jaguars.

Lockley will be able to appeal the fine on the basis that it is excessive in comparison to his salary, but this move certainly hammers home the point that the NFL is serious about cracking down on hits that it views as dangerous to player safety.
