The Jaguars are looking for a better performance in their second preseason game. While the final score does not really matter in these preseason games, it is important for them to put on a good show for the home fans.

Here are five things to watch for when the Jaguars open their 2011 home schedule against the Atlanta Falcons.

1. Quarterback Competition- The race to be the Jaguars starting quarterback is on. Incumbent starter David Garrard is getting his first live game action tonight and it will be important for him to have a good showing in front of the home crowd because at this point the fans are overwhelmingly on the side of rookie Blaine Gabbert, who has been impressive so far in camp. The Jaguars coaching staff only has three more live game situations in which to judge each quarterback’s performance, one bad outing could have a major impact on who is the starting quarterback this season.

2. Pass Rush- The Jaguars defensive line did not generate much pressure in the first preseason game against the Patriots. The pass rush should get a boost this week from the return of Terrance Knighton in the middle and the addition of Matt Roth on the edge. The coaching staff would also like to see something from the young guys they have fighting for playing time at defensive end.

3. Wide Receiver Battle- There are a bunch of young guys fighting for a limited number of roster spots. Expect to get your first look at rookies Cecil Shorts and Armon Binns tonight. I also expect to see more from Jarett Dillard tonight, because if he can stay healthy I believe he will be a big part of the Jaguars passing offense this season.

4. Offensive Line- The offensive line play was one of the major issues in the game last week. The Jaguars will once again be without starting right tackle Eben Britton, so expect the Jaguars to give a couple different guys a look at right tackle. The coaches would also like to see a better performance from Uche Nwaneri at right guard and they would like to see rookie Will Rackley step up and claim the starting left guard position.

5. Home Crowd- How many people are going to be in the stands for the game tonight? The Jaguars are using a preseason exemption, so the game will not be blacked out. Even though it is preseason, I expect to see a good crowd at the game tonight.

Expected To Miss Tonight’s Game: Maurice Jones-Drew (knee), Aaron Kampman (knee), Rashad Jennings (head), Clint Session (head), Eben Britton (back), Zach Miller (knee)

Prediction: No predictions for the preseason, but I believe the Jaguars will have a much better showing in their second preseason game.
