Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio confirmed on Monday what most fans already suspected would happen when he announced that they would be looking at punters on Tuesday in hopes of finding a replacement for Matt Turk.

Turk, a 16-year NFL veteran, has been under fire for some poor performances this season that have cost the Jaguars valuable field position late in games in which they were ahead. On Sunday, Turk had punts of 23 and 22 yards in the fourth quarter that provided the Bengals with excellent field position for their game winning drive. Turk was greeted by a chorus of boos following both punts which prompted him to taunt the home crowd.

The Jaguars signed Turk in August for $2 million after they lost Adam Podlesh to the Bears in free agency.

While Del Rio said the Jaguars would look at punters on Tuesday, he would not commit to saying they would definitely be making a change at the position. Del Rio certainly didn’t give much of an endorsement for his punter though during his press conference.

“When you have seven punts on the day and one of them’s good, that’s not going to work for you,” Del Rio told the media.

The move to change punters seems to be a no brainer at this point. It is hard to imagine there are not any punters sitting at home who could do a better job than Turk has done through five games for the Jaguars.
