Adam Schefter is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have claimed former Denver QB Kyle Orton off of waivers today.  Orton is owed 2.6 million dollars for the rest of the season.

Orton was benched in Denver after going 1-4 in the first five games of the season.  Tim Tebow took over and now has the Broncos at 5-5.  The Chiefs are currently just two games back in the AFC West and must see Orton as a better answer than Tyler Palko or Ricky Stanzi.

This is an interesting move for KC.  They must believe the playoffs are still possible, otherwise paying over 2 million for a rental is asinine.  The Chiefs must not also see Palko as a long-term option.

The Broncos and Chiefs meet again in Week 17 and the game could be for a playoff spot.  Will Orton be the wrench in his former team’s playoff plans?  We can only hope.
