Penn State Running Back Silas Redd Transfers To USC
Rob Christy-US PRESSWIRE

Silas Redd was one of the Penn State players who was going to get recruited the hardest.  Lane Kiffin and USC put on the full court press and Kiffin convinced Redd to transfer to play for the Trojans next season.  Redd should make the Trojans a favorite to win the BCS Championship.

There were some clues that this was going to happen.  Silas Redd was supposed to be at Big 10 media days, but he was meeting with Kiffin face to face.  Kiffin is probably the best recruiter in the game right now, so meeting with Redd was just the first step in convincing him.  Plus, it is easy to sell kids on the possibility of playing for a national championship.

If a meeting with Kiffin and company was not enough of a sign, Redd deleted his Twitter account on Monday morning.  He may have been sick of Twitter but a lot of people took it as a sign he was getting ready to leave and didn’t want to deal with online backlash.

Redd is going to make the USC offense much more dangerous.  Think about how hard they will be to stop with Redd toting the rock and Matt Barkley shredding secondaries on a weekly basis.  The Trojans should end up marching to the title game unless they absolutely sleepwalk through a game.

You can not blame Silas Redd for wanting to transfer.  There is really nothing left for him at PSU.  He is not going to win a title or get to play in a bowl game.  In Southern Cal, he can do both of those things.  He will probably turn pro after the 2012 season, so he is pretty much a hired gun this season.

USC should be a team that scares everyone this coming season.  Silas Redd just makes them more dangerous.  If you run into USC on the football field, good luck.  Your favorite team is probably going to need it.
