Nike Is Better Than Adidas At Making Uniforms
When Barry Alvarez was offered the job at the University of Wisconsin, he wanted to mold his Badgers team after his alma matter, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhuskers. He grew the walk-on program at Wisconsin and started heavily recruiting the in-state talent as much as he could. Little did he know that nearly ten years after he got out of the coaching gig that his former football team would be so similar to his alma matter.
Adidas, the athletic apparel company, has always tried to prove that they are better than their arch-nemesis Nike. When Nike came out with their pro combat uniforms, the blogosphere and twitterverse immediately made their opinions known, many of them favorable responses.
So how does Adidas respond? By making IDENTICAL jerseys, minus the color schemes, for one of their biggest showings of the 2012 season.
When the Wisconsin Badgers meet the Nebraska Cornhuskers to open B1G 10 play in Lincoln on September 29th, it was supposed to be a big night for the teams, the conference, and the apparel maker.
While we have no idea how the game will turn out, it will not be hard to sense the criticism that will come with the game. Husker fans have taken to Twitter, Facebook, and other internet websites to state how much they really do appreciate the uniforms. That is, until they saw how similar Wisconsin’s were.
Could both Alvarez and former Nebraska coach and now athletic director Tom Osborne had something to do with this? Both are old-fashioned and do not want to get too far away from their traditional uniforms. Even then, you would think that that Adidas could find a way to create two separate uniforms that are not nearly identical.
Adidas will still be around for years to come, but maybe, just maybe, they could come up with something a little more original.
