Colorado Takes a Shot At The Big 12 in Jordan Webb Bio
Kansas transfer Jordan Webb was named the starting quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday after beating out Nick Hirschman and former Texas quarterback Connor Wood. Colorado left the Big 12 conference to join the Pac 12 after the 2010 season but there seems to be a little animosity towards their former conference according to Webb’s bio on the team’s official site.
That season, CU blew a 45-17 lead with 11 minutes remaining in Lawrence and it led to the firing of embattled coach Dan Hawkins. Webb was a part of that Kansas team and it was the only Big 12 win for the Jayhawks that season.
Here’s how his 2010 season excerpt reads:
He started seven games and played in nine overall, missing games eight through 10 after being injured against Texas A&M (which included the Colorado game where KU rallied with the aid of terrible Big 12 officiating for a 52-45 win). He completed 121-of-214 passes for 1,195 yards (7 TD/8 INT); in his first career start against Georgia Tech, he completed 18-of-29 for 179 yards and three touchdowns.
Talk about taking a shot.
First of all, when CU was up 45-17 late in that game, offensive mastermind Hawkins decided to continue to throw the ball instead of running out the clock on the ground. Second, blaming officials for a coaches mistake and bad game management is not the thing to do, especially in a player’s bio on the official website. Third, the refs were not the best that day but CU made plenty of mistakes on their own, on the way to blowing a four-touchdown lead.
I wonder if Webb has seen this because it might be a little awkward now that he starts for CU when he was on the other side of that infamous collapse.
For CU the only good thing that came out of that game was the firing of Hawkins. He steered CU in the wrong direction the moment he ceremoniously arrived on campus in December of 2005 and it culminated with his termination after the disaster in Lawrence.
Hopefully Webb can provide a better script for his 2012 bio on the Colorado website.
