After defeating Ottawa 4-1 last night, the Kings picked up their first win in their last three games just before the All Star break. But the team has a lot more to be excited about than just the win alone.

Jonathan Quick will be representing Los Angeles in the All Star game on January 29 in Ottawa. After his arrival on Thursday morning, Quick will participate in the game’s draft where captains Zdeno Chara and Daniel Alfredsson will decide their teams. Last night in the Kings’ net, he held a shutout for the first 48 minutes of the game and stopped 27 of 28 shots overall. Quick holds the second highest save percentage in the league at .934, just under Henrik Lundqvist at .937. This could potentially earn Quick an MVP title at Sundays game and award him a brand new car.

Kyle Clifford also caused quite the stir against the Senators after scoring his first career Gordie Howe hat trick by finishing with a goal, an assist, and getting into a fight. Clifford commented after the game about a bet he had made with teammate Kevin Westgarth prior to putting up his points. The two allegedly made a deal that whoever scored a goal first would earn a Porterhouse steak courtesy of the other at a restaurant of their choice. Looks like Westy better start saving up.

The Kings can also be proud of their defensive skills leading into their week off. Since head coach Darryl Sutter’s arrival, the team’s goals-against average has dropped over a half goal per game. After a tough defensive performance throughout first half of the season, the Kings are seeing improvements. One of the biggest changes has been noted in Drew Doughty who finally has a stronger on-ice presence after frustrating fans by his statistics (or lack thereof) and recent contract.

Now it’s time to clear your Sunday schedule and cheer Quick on as he proudly represents his teammates, coaches, and fans in the All Star game.
