The Miami Marlins could be considered the laughing stock of the MLB this year, sure. It’s hard to disagree after their absurd spending spree on players like Jose Reyes, Mark Buerhle, Heath Bell, and Ozzie  Guillen over the winter. Their seemingly “all-in” attitude lasted until until July as the Marlins couldn’t find anything consistent this year. The players I just mentioned are all over paid, and incredibly mediocre (yes, even Jose Reyes). The Marlins decided to send prima donna Hanley Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a young pitcher, and Anibal Sanchez/Omar Infante to the Detroit Tigers for Jacob Turner. Who would have thought they would get more value in the Anibal deal than the Hanley deal? Crazy.

With all that being said, it looks like the Marlins are going to leave Jacob Turner in the minors for now to continue developing, and call up LHP Brad Hand from the minors.

This isn’t a bad move at all because there’s no reason to continue rushing Turner. He had a pretty poor stint with the Tigers as he shows promise, but lacks command of the strike zone. Turner has the upside of being a 1 in the rotation so there’s just no reason to push him if he isn’t ready. Turner will continue to develop in AAA and I expect him to be one of the brighter stars in any rotation come next year. We’ll see him in September, but for now? AAA is a good spot for him. I’m sure MLB Rumors surrounding the Miami Marlins will continue to surface through August and into the winter.
