Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun will accept his National League MVP award at the Baseball Writers’ Association of America awards banquet on Saturday night in New York.

Braun has come under fire when news broke last December about him testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He currently faces a 50-game suspension unless he wins the appeal in the next couple months.

Braun has said he will give an acceptance speech but will not grant any interviews with the media. He has stayed out of the spotlight since the allegations came to the surface and has not been allowed to make any comments publicly until the appeal process is over.

He led the league with a .332 batting average, 109 runs, 33 home runs, 111 RBI, 33 stolen bases and a .597 slugging percentage.

The Brewers are trying to make another run at a National League Central crown after winning their first one in franchise history last year. It is crucial Braun successfully appeals the suspension as he is vital to the success of the team. Milwaukee signed Aramis Ramirez, Alex Gonzalez and Japanese outfielder Norichika Aoki to fill key roles. They also recently resigned Nyjer Morgan, Carlos Gomez, Francisco Rodriguez and Kameron Loe.
