Detroit Tigers Have A Superman In Miguel Cabrera

Rick Osentoski – USA TODAY Sports

Everything was going wrong again for the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. Fresh off an embarrassing sweep and losing an early lead on controversial calls leading to the ejection of Brayan Pena and Jim Leyland, Tigers fans were ready to accept another heartbreaking night. Then they remembered they had something no other teams have, Miguel Cabrera. As soon as Superman is called no Tigers fan worries because they know Miguel Cabrera will save the day.

Every night a question remains unanswered. Why do you pitch to Miguel Cabrera? Every Tigers fan was thinking one thing when Miguel Cabrera stepped into the batters box in the ninth inning tied 5-5 against the Kansas City Royals. It was the same thing they thought when he stepped in against Mariano Rivera or countless other closers over the years: Miguel Cabrera is going to hit a home run. Cabrera delivered as he always does, sending the Tigers to a gigantic victory that momentarily stopped the bleeding and once again established him as the best hitter to ever grace the game of baseball.

Let’s hope every manager continues to pitch to the best hitter on earth because it gives Tigers fans some of the greatest moments on earth. It’s almost unfair that a team can have one player who can completely carry a team upon his back as a one- man wrecking ball. Appreciate the monumental home runs, the thrilling walk offs and the dramatic at bats because one day managers will finally realize there is no kryptonite to Miguel Cabrera. There is no way to defeat him when everything is on the line.
