Cincinnati Reds’ Homer Bailey Can Battle with Clayton Kershaw

Homer Bailey

Facing the Los Angeles Dodgers for the last three months hasn’t been an easy task for any team in Major League Baseball. When you happen to draw them at the same time they have Cy-Young favorite Clayton Kershaw on the mound, it is even less fun. The Cincinnati Reds however have someone that they should feel comfortable throwing up against the Dodgers and Kershaw and that man is Homer Bailey.

By now you have surely heard of Bailey from his two no-hitters over the course of the last calendar year. He certainly is capable of shutting down any team at any time. He is also capable of allowing a few crooked runs up on the board. Considering he is facing Kershaw and the Dodgers, I would think that Bailey is one of the best guys that the Reds could be throwing up there. I wouldn’t pick anyone else as a matter of fact. Bailey has to be willing and able to rise to that occasion now and in the playoffs to come.

As far as stats go, Bailey has given up zero runs in his last couple of starts and is 3 – 0 with a 2.05 ERA in his last five starts. That added to the fact that he has won his last five decisions makes it a good thing to have him going up against Kershaw. Bailey has faced the Dodgers once this season and gave up an admirable 2 runs over 7 innings in a tough-luck loss. Since the opposing pitcher in that game just so happens to have been Kershaw; Bailey has a little revenge coming his way anyway. I’d look for a good outing from Bailey and a close game throughout.
