Biography Andre Drummond Power Forward Connecticut Freshman

Pros

Physical Ability: Andre Drummond has freakish physical ability for an NBA big.

Durability: Drummond rarely gets injured.

Size: Drummond is 6 foot 10 251 pounds.  He has the 7 foot 5 wingspan of a 5 at center, but the size of a 4 at power forward.  Drummond uses his size to dominate the low post converting opportunities to execute key slam dunks.

Awareness: Drummond has good offensive and defensive awareness on the floor.

Basketball IQ: Drummond has a very high basketball IQ and is a smart instinctive player.  Drummond has the ability to recognize defenders and utilize his passing ability to make plays outside of the post.

Franchise Player: Andre Drummond may be rough around the edges in terms of his offensive skill set.  Drummond is a project at this point.  At the same time Drummond has major upside that could allow him to develop into a franchise player

Production: Drummond was projected to be the #1 overall recruit in the class of 2012 before he made his commitment to Connecticut.

Potential: Drummond has huge upside and potential to succeed in the NBA.

Cons

Learning Rate: It may take a while for Andre Drummond to learn a coaches NBA game plan.

Intangibles: Drummond is an awesome rebounder due to his size.  Drummond could improve his intangibles.  I am sure my impression of Andre Drummond’s intangibles will change once I see him play more at Connecticut.

Shooting Accuracy: I feel like Drummond’s shooting accuracy could be more consistent.  Right now you cannot knock Drummond’s ability to shoot the basketball.

My thoughts on Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond will be the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.  It remains unseen whether Drummond goes #1 in 2012 because Drummond was the top recruit in high school in 2012, but since he graduated a year early he gets to go play for Connecticut this season.

The 2012 NBA Draft looks like a really strong draft class.  Adding a player with Andre Drummond’s talent only makes this class stronger.

Drummond has the most potential of any prospect among the candidates eligible for the 2012 NBA Draft.  At the same time there is a chance that Drummond fails to reach his potential due to his lack of experience executing NBA type plays.  Drummond has the high basketball IQ that you look for in an NBA prospect.  That may compensate for Drummond’s ability to comprehend an NBA playbook at this point.

Even though Andre Drummond is the clear cut #1 pick he will either end up becoming a franchise player or he will become the next Hasheem Thabeet.

Andre Drummond is head and shoulders the top prospect in the 2012 NBA Draft when he applies himself to basketball.  I have a very difficult time seeing Drummond fail because Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun will do everything necessary to make sure Drummond succeeds on and off the court.
